Generic Name: Rifaximin
Rifaximin is an antibiotic that works locally in the gut to reduce the growth of certain bacteria. It is primarily used to treat bacterial infections of the intestines, such as traveler's diarrhea, and to prevent hepatic encephalopathy.
Indications & Uses
- Traveler's Diarrhea: Treatment of non-invasive traveler's diarrhea caused by non-invasive strains of E. coli.
- Hepatic Encephalopathy: Reduction in risk of overt hepatic encephalopathy recurrence.
Dosage & Administration
- Usual Dosage: As prescribed by a doctor, typically 550mg two or three times daily.
- Method of Administration: Take orally with or without food.
